CUSCO, THE CAPITAL OF THE INCA EMPIRE
Cusco is located in the Southern part of the Andean mountain range.  It is the forth biggest city in Peru. Because of its historical background once it was the capital city of the Inca empire, there exist many important Inca ruins and indigenous cultures.  It is very interesting to hear QUECHUA,  the language having been spoken from the Inca period, and to see people dressed in the traditional clothing on the street. Cusco is the highland city of 3400m above the sea level.  Be careful with altitude sickness if you are coming from the lowland.   Running too fast, eating too much, drinking too much, even laughing too hard is not a good idea.  Cusco is a beautiful and peaceful city.  It is quite safe city but you  always have to be careful walking in a local market, around the station at night.  There are pick-pockets.  Spanish and Quechua languages are spoken in Cusco but English is quite widely spoken in the tourist areas. Through the year, it is cold early in the morning and at night.  You will need a sweater and a jacket; however, it is burning hot during the day.  The sun is very strong so sun-block and a cap are very convenient.
The rainy season is between November and February, but the air is always very dry because of the high altitude.  There are many churches, religious arts, and festivals to see.  The tourist sports are Inca ruins, Sacred Valley of the Incas, Machu Picchu ruins, the indigenous craft markets.  You can also try horse back riding, mountain biking, trekking ( 4 day INCA trail to Machu Picchu ) , river-rafting, repelling, paraglider, balloon ride, Amazon tour, and so on.
